Shit Sucked

So because of my Heavy Rain addiction I chose to do this weeks post on shitty games I’ve played in the past few years.

Assassins Creed
When I first heard of this game I thought it looked and sounded amazing. A parkour style gameplay, running around on rooftops and killing people. The promise was there and it was delivered, but I never knew that too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Doing the same thing over and over again got really boring really quickly. The game did not offer a fast travel system, and the amount of ways to kill people were very limited. This game quickly went on my shelf to collect dust and never be played again.

FarCry 2:
Another game that promised a lot and delivered it, but it wasn’t exactly the best thing in the world. It had a large open world with tons of scenery but it was all just for show. Being in the forests I expected lots of cover and being able to sneak up on enemies. I never got that, instead the enemies always knew where I was, and were shooting me from god knows where. Getting from point A to point B took forever, and when you finally got there, you died and had to do the whole thing all over again. And often when I was told to go to point B I died before I even got there. Here’s a tip, don’t make getting to the mission, a part of the mission.

Bugs, glitches, cheating, dare I say more?

Remember!

iremember

Just a quick post this week as I am busy with some other things. One thing that pissed me off recently is when people younger than me say “remember in the good old days?”

I’m sorry? Good old days? I lived as long if not longer than you and I don’t remember any good old days. This phrase should not be used by anyone under 60. Forgive Us Crazy Kids, Your Opinion’s Unwanted.

Lazy TTC?

ttc

In a recent turn of events there have been a large amount hate for the TTC regarding their service. Sure the recent 25 cent fare-hike is a little much, but it is still cheaper than the VIVA or other transit lines. By no means is the TTC perfect, but it gets me from point A to point B. So it is all good.

In the news not too long about there was a story about a TTC booth collector being asleep on the job. I’m not going to go out and say he had a right to do that, but there must have been a reason behind it. There is no way he sleeps on the job every day, this was definitely a first time offence. Instead of kindly waking him up, some asshole decided to take a picture of it. This made everyone say “what a lazy employee” and this brought on a whole wave of complaints. There must have been an explanation for why the TTC employee was asleep, maybe he had to take his kid to the hospital that night and didn’t get any sleep. We don’t know the reason behind it, but people are so quick to judge. Not to say that it was right, but it could be forgiven.

Since then people have been recording the bus drivers on their cellphones whenever the drivers go to use the bathroom or go get coffee or whatever. I’m sure we’ve all done the same thing, we’ve all used the bathroom at work during our shift, we’ve all taken short breaks to talk to a friend or something. The TTC employees are only human. Don’t videotape the TTC employees taking a break, how would you feel if someone videotaped you while you were talking on a cellphone at work, or Googling something. Everyone slacks off, not just the TTC.

With these events, the drivers are put through so much. They’re even spit on by passengers. The amount of disrespect that goes toward the employees is shocking. People say the drivers deserve it because they are disrespectful. I have never met one TTC employee that was disrespectful, but that’s not to say that some are.

Allow me to take one person’s ignorant comment on Facebook just to prove how stupid some people are:

“Fucking TTC! “Wah, we put up with so much abuse!” FUCK THEM. It’s their jobs! If you can even call it that. They sit there and drive. They could probably go all day with out saying two words to someone getting on. And that shit about how its a fucking PRIVLEDGE to ride the ttc… taxes.. the taxes that WE pay, go to th…e fucking TTC. Or how about all the money they make off of the fares we pay. Sorry, guys, but its our RIGHT to get on a fucking bus. And its our right to get where we are going on time. You want a coffe? Bring a thermas! Selfish pricks only care for them selves.”

It’s their job to take abuse? Funny, I never heard that taking abuse can be a profession. What the fuck do you mean by “they just sit there and drive” well tell me. What the fuck is it that you do? Do you work in retail? Well all you have to do is “arrange stuff.” So we pay taxes and the fare, does that mean we have a right to take the bus? Yes. But if you don’t like it you do have other alternatives. You could take a car, you could walk, or you could bike there. The bus is offered to you as a service you don’t have to use it.

We in no means have a perfect subway service here in Toronto, but it’s good enough.

HDDs On Fire

hddfire
So back in September (or was is August?) I bought a little device called the BT300 by a company called Bytecc. It basically took your PATA/SATA drive and turned it into an external drive. It worked great at first, I plugged in some old IDEs and started copying files onto my main hard drive.  I was done with it, so I put it in a corner and never used it again.

Until recently when I bought a new WD hard drive and installed Win 7 on it. I took my old Maxtor and plugged it into this device to copy the files into the new hard drive. (I did not have enough cables to keep it plugged in) So I plug it in and within seconds I see the device start to smoke. I fucking panicked and quickly unplugged my old hard drive to hopefully save the data. Data was safe. However the thing started smoking for no fucking reason.

So I decided to do some research and read some Newegg reviews. It turns out that others have had the same problem of the device going up in smoke, while others have had the hard drives fry, and even some had the PSU of the device melt. I tried going on the Bytecc website to try to get an refund or something. Unfortunately their website is fucking created by some fucking asian guy who can’t speak any English.

“RMA service is only for campanys directly buy merchandise from BYTECC.
Not for enduser or consumer.”

I’m sorry, what the fuck is a campany? Is that like a camp? But I guess I shouldn’t be too shocked with this company and bad English. There was a sheet of paper that came with the device that read “If plug-in the connect incorrect, may cause damaged”  That really made a lot of sense.

The device itself has a few flaws. The USB cable is retardedly short. The casing of it feels like it’s going to break at any moment. You actually have to remove the casing if you want to plug in a 2.5″ laptop PATA drive. But one thing out of this really shocked me. On a regular hard drive it’s pretty damn hard to plug in the molex cable upside down. On this device you can do it with no additional force. If you look closely, you will see that there infact is a groove for how it’s suppose to go. Problem is that groove doesn’t stop it from going in. Way to fucking design something Bytecc.
