“For A Limited Time Only”
August 25th, 2008 by MattCountless of times you probably heard the saying “Now, for a limited time only” and you go out and rush to buy something. Hell, we’ve all done it at one point, but doesn’t it piss you off when they don’t give you that warning?
Here in Canada it is terrible! We don’t even have Cherry Coke here anymore. What the hell? I loved it! The reason for this is probably the lack of consumer demand which is why we don’t have Pepsi Blue anymore. But I think that Pepsi Blue and Cherry Coke are completely different. One tastes terrible, and another one tastes awesome. However, why is it that the companies fail to offer the same products they do in the States, than they do in Canada.
It doesn’t stop at food though, as we all know the Playstation 3 has had a terrible launch according to some. While the price point was incredibly high and it was hard as hell to find one I found it a pretty good launch. Due to the low amount of sales on the 20GB model, they stopped producing it and started focusing on the 60GB. Now, the 60GB is the best model to date. It has got 4 USB ports, WIFI, hardware backwards compatibility, and that ever so sexy silver accent. However, it seems Sony decided that backwards compatibility is not needed so they decided to ditch it. For the people who waited to get a PS3, they got shafted, they lost 2 USB ports and the backwards compatibility. Why? Presumably it’s due to market research.
It was done pretty poorly if you ask me. Sure, I don’t need a PS3 to play my PS2/PSone games as I have all three consoles. However, I do not feel like plugging in a PS2 each time I want to play an older game. It seems that other users think differently, but I am also sure that this turns lots of people off who were thinking of getting a PS3. While it is great to evaluate current users and see what they want, you should also take in account of future users.
All that without any warning or anything. At least for promotions they notify you that it’s for a limited time only. Not tell you that “these are the final specs” and then change them on you. On the other hand I guess you also have to look at this in the eyes of a retailer. A store may not want 20 different flavours of Coke on their shelf if only 7 of them sell well. But as far as technology goes it should keep going forward. While I am not saying that the VHS should still be around I do think that DVDs should work in Bluray players (which they do currently) and I do believe PS2 games should work on a PS3. Dang it Sony, I hope you do bring backwards compatibility back.
Too Long Didn’t Read: It sucks when shit disappears off the shelves without notice.
