Recently Toronto passed some bill that allowed malls and shopping centres to remain open during statutory holidays. For most this meant that they can still go to buy their favourite Iron Maiden album while it’s Labour Day. Hats off to them.

However, for some this was a move of evil, one person saying “people should enjoy the sunshine instead of shopping.” Yeah, I don’t know if you noticed, but it’s not sunny every year. Another person called it “disrespectful.” The list of stupid comments goes on and on. If you find malls being open on holidays disrespectful then don’t fucking shop there on the holidays. It’s a nice option to have as not everyone celebrates the same shit you do. How are you supposed to celebrate Victoria Day anyways? Though it represents a patriotic thing, it’s not like we march for freedom on that day. We just drink and shoot fireworks.

I personally don’t see what’s so wrong about having the malls open. If you don’t want to go shopping, no one is forcing you to. The only “problem” would be if you were called into work, however being a holiday you would get paid time and a half, and only have to work the Sunday hours. Basically, you get more money for doing less work. What’s wrong with that?

Does it really affect my life? No, not really, there were times when I was planning to buy something but I couldn’t get it because the stores were closed. Oh well, I waited a day and got it then. But for some that’s not really an option. However I’m not complaining about it because there’s going to be a day, where I’m going to need to get a new pair of pants on Canada Day, and the stores will be closed, and to prevent that, the malls should just remain open.

The homosexual community is now up in arms after Stephen Harper announced that he will not help fund the Gay Pride Parade in Toronto this year. The gays are calling this an act of homophobia; however, Harper did give the parade money last year. $400,000 to be exact. So did Harper magically obtain homophobia over the course of the last year? Tracey Sandilands seems to believe so, saying “So the only thing it can be is some kind of homophobia.” Really? That’s the only thing that it could be? How about a stricter budget? What the Conservatives did was fund fewer major city events, and started focusing on the smaller ones.

I’ve talked about the government wasting their money on the Gay Pride Parade last year, but I was told that it brings in a lot of money. If that is true, where is the money today? Hell, I’ve heard reports that it brought in $100,000,000 if that’s true then Harper’s $400,000 means nothing. People already know about this parade, and it’s going to have the same turnout regardless of the extra Harper money. People aren’t going for the expensive fireworks at the end, they are going for the message.

It should be funded by the municipal government instead seeing how Toronto gets the tourists. The majority of the attendees at this parade are Canadians anyways, so the $400,000 is just making the Canadians waste money in Toronto instead of wasting it in Montreal.

This is a festival that should be able to support itself, it shouldn’t need to rely on the government to help it anymore. There are tons of events that make money without the help of the government, why can’t the gay community?

Is this homophobia? Hardly. I hate to use the word “butthurt” here but it is exactly how the gay community is acting right now. Calm down, no one is taking away your rights. You still have the right to vote, the right to live, and the same rights everyone else has. It’s just that your event didn’t get money. Oh well big deal, the straight-pride parade didn’t get any money either, where are my rights?

So where did all the millions of revenue from the previous parade go? Probably spent on sex toys and lube.

In a recent turn of events there have been a large amount hate for the TTC regarding their service. Sure the recent 25 cent fare-hike is a little much, but it is still cheaper than the VIVA or other transit lines. By no means is the TTC perfect, but it gets me from point A to point B. So it is all good.

In the news not too long about there was a story about a TTC booth collector being asleep on the job. I’m not going to go out and say he had a right to do that, but there must have been a reason behind it. There is no way he sleeps on the job every day, this was definitely a first time offence. Instead of kindly waking him up, some asshole decided to take a picture of it. This made everyone say “what a lazy employee” and this brought on a whole wave of complaints. There must have been an explanation for why the TTC employee was asleep, maybe he had to take his kid to the hospital that night and didn’t get any sleep. We don’t know the reason behind it, but people are so quick to judge. Not to say that it was right, but it could be forgiven.

Since then people have been recording the bus drivers on their cellphones whenever the drivers go to use the bathroom or go get coffee or whatever. I’m sure we’ve all done the same thing, we’ve all used the bathroom at work during our shift, we’ve all taken short breaks to talk to a friend or something. The TTC employees are only human. Don’t videotape the TTC employees taking a break, how would you feel if someone videotaped you while you were talking on a cellphone at work, or Googling something. Everyone slacks off, not just the TTC.

With these events, the drivers are put through so much. They’re even spit on by passengers. The amount of disrespect that goes toward the employees is shocking. People say the drivers deserve it because they are disrespectful. I have never met one TTC employee that was disrespectful, but that’s not to say that some are.

Allow me to take one person’s ignorant comment on Facebook just to prove how stupid some people are:

“Fucking TTC! “Wah, we put up with so much abuse!” FUCK THEM. It’s their jobs! If you can even call it that. They sit there and drive. They could probably go all day with out saying two words to someone getting on. And that shit about how its a fucking PRIVLEDGE to ride the ttc… taxes.. the taxes that WE pay, go to th…e fucking TTC. Or how about all the money they make off of the fares we pay. Sorry, guys, but its our RIGHT to get on a fucking bus. And its our right to get where we are going on time. You want a coffe? Bring a thermas! Selfish pricks only care for them selves.”

It’s their job to take abuse? Funny, I never heard that taking abuse can be a profession. What the fuck do you mean by “they just sit there and drive” well tell me. What the fuck is it that you do? Do you work in retail? Well all you have to do is “arrange stuff.” So we pay taxes and the fare, does that mean we have a right to take the bus? Yes. But if you don’t like it you do have other alternatives. You could take a car, you could walk, or you could bike there. The bus is offered to you as a service you don’t have to use it.

We in no means have a perfect subway service here in Toronto, but it’s good enough.

Another year another pointless time to list things. I did a “fads of 2008″ post last year, but this year I can’t find any new ones. It seems like the shit just carried over from last year. Anyways, I guess this means I will write about the “Top news stories OF ALL TIME (of 2009)”

1. The Economy
Oh yes, we are still talking about the recession. Even though it was declared as being over. Well it’s not. People still claim that the economy is rough. Bullshit. If people were spending more money then there would be more money circulating. Which means more jobs. I can’t believe this shit isn’t over yet.

2. First Black President
In all honesty this is no surprise at all. It was either a black dude or a white chick. I guess people chose a black guy because they didn’t want menopausal mood swings making stupid decisions.

3. Swine Flu
My god, it’s just like the regular flu. Except this one causes less deaths a year. I remember hearing how the seasonal flu kills 20,000 a year in Canada. Swine flu deaths were below 20.

4. Michael Jackson Dies
Oh big fucking deal, people die all the time. But this is the only time when I saw all the hate for Michael Jackson disappear. He was no longer the accused child molester he once was. No, now Michael was the man who changed music forever. Make up your fucking mind people. And besides, MJ wasn’t the only person who died. The following people did too

Fuck Oprah. Fuck her and her millions of fans. I was going through the richest people list a while back ago and I saw Oprah there. I was like why the fuck is she so fucking popular. Then I heard people saying “Oprah is the housewives best friend.” So I understood everything suddenly. Oprah is some talk show host which poisons parents minds with paranoia and feminist theories. Let me start.

I’ve only ever watched one episode of Oprah in my life, this was the famous one about the child molesters and over 9,000 penises raping children. It had to deal with how child pornography spreads on the internet and how often it happens. Oprah then scares a bunch of parents into believing that their child is going to be raped so then the parents become over protective and watch their child like a hawk. Fuck, you’re child is probably not going to get raped. Your child has a larger chance of getting run over by a car than raped. Besides, most of the time child pornography comes from the parent of the child anyways.

Next I read that Oprah started some all girls school in South Africa. To apparently give girls an opportunity to make a difference in the world. Fuck you Oprah, guys can make a difference too, why exclude them? Oprah then later went on to say that she was inspired to build this school because of her “disadvantaged background.” Yeah Oprah, being a billionaire is really a disadvantage.  I guess getting raped at the age of 9 and getting pregnant at 14 really sucks. However the getting pregnant was your fault. Your life was bad like the African’s life.

Oprah is a media whore, nothing more. She sells her thoughts as facts, and wives go crazy over her every word. So do what Oprah did; stick over 9,000 penises into your ass.
